Why is melanzane (eggplant) purple?

Because the flower it comes from is purple?

Okay, so I have complained about Alitalia and my travel woes...it is time to give credit where credit is due. The woman at the Delta check-in counter at the Indianapolis airport was great. She fixed my botched ticket (Alitalia in Catania cashed in the e-ticket to re-rout me and only printed 2/3 of my flight coupons) in a relatively short amount of time...then she did the unheard of - she issued me boarding passes all the way to Catania! Wow! So my flight to Cincinatti was ok...then Cincinatti to Rome went smooth...then I ran through the airport to the Alitalia transfer desk because I noticed a flight boarding for Catania - could I get on it? You bet...traveling with only carry-on luggage and being a single individual they had just enough room for me if I hurried. I arrived at Catania airport at 1:00...the time my original flight from Rome was scheduled to leave. Home at last...now life can go on.
